SUMMARY:Climate Change and Toxic Hazards: After the Storm
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Boston University Superfund Research Program (BU SRP)\, we would like to make you aware of a webinar on Thursday\, March 28th\, at 1PM EST that is different from typical webinars on storm preparation and clean up: \nClimate Change and Toxic Hazards: After the Storm: \nhttps://www.healthandenvironment.org/webinars/96478 \nThis is the final webinar in a 3-part series on climate change\, toxic hazards\, and how to prepare to protect public health before\, during\, and after a superstorm or flood. Speakers in this webinar will address the range of issues communities face after a storm with a focus on preventing exposures to toxic substances that have been unleashed by the flood into the air water and soil. What’s the best cleanup process after a major storm or flooding event? What’s the best way to protect people during that process? How do people deal with home and business contamination? What are the roles of individuals\, agencies\, businesses\, governments? How do we deal with aging infrastructure? If there are existing hazardous waste sites in the region\, how can they be contained in the aftermath? This webinar will feature Dr. Tom Estabrook\, Project Director of The New England Consortium\, an NIEHS-funded worker health and safety training project based at University of Massachusetts Lowell\, and Richard Rabin\, a volunteer with MassCOSH (Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health) for over 30 years and former director of the Occupational Lead Poisoning Registry at the Massachusetts Department of Labor for over 20 years. \nWe hope you will join us on the 28th. \nRSVP: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_8Evqrv-kR520Ux9aAuzf4w

SUMMARY:Medical Management for CBRNE Events (PER-211)
DESCRIPTION:What if a catastrophic event occurs? Will you be ready? Will you need a special level of protection? Is decontamination necessary? Do you have the right medications?\nPER 211\, Medical Management of Chemical\, Biological\, Radiological\, Nuclear and Explosives\, (CBRNE) Events answers these questions and more as you learn how to distinguish between different agents of concern that could be used in a major incident.\nThis course is a combination of facilitated discussions\, small-group exercises\, Human Patient Simulator hands-on scenarios\, and traditional classroom discussions. Exercises are conducted in a CBRNE scenario using both adult and pediatric Human Patient Simulators to reinforce classroom lectures and interaction.\nThis course promotes critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID-Care concept. The multi-discipline make-up of the participants helps to strengthen information sharing\, communications\, and medical surge capabilities.\nTopics Include:\n•	Environmental factors and protective issues for both first responders and the public\n•	Planning for potential consequences of a CBRNE incident\n•	Recognizing and identifying CBRNE agents and their physiological effects on the human body\n•	Appropriate self-protection measures and measures necessary to limit patient cross-contamination\n•	Assessment of adult and pediatric patients\n•	Basic decontamination considerations\n•	Appropriate triage methods during a CBRNE or terrorist incident\n•	Response to an incident involving CBRNE\n•	RAPID-Care concepts \nRecommendations: Basic EMS Concepts for CBRNE Events (AWR-111-W) & WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders (AWR-160-W)\nTo ensure adequate participation of the target audience\, all registrants will be placed on the waiting list pending approval. Justifications in the “Job Responsibilities Related to Course” section will be carefully reviewed for acceptance into the course.\nPlease contact David Bryant at david.bryant@mass.gov with any questions. \nStudents participating in FEMA provided training are required to provide their FEMA Student Identification (SID) number. Your FEMA SID uniquely identifies you throughout the FEMA organization and all of its agencies. It serves as your personal identification number and combines all of your FEMA training records under one account to simplify tracking of all your FEMA training accomplishments.\nPlease visit the FEMA SID web site to do any of the following.\n•	To register for your FEMA SID if you do not already have one\,\n•	To retrieve your FEMA SID if you have forgotten it\, and\n•	To obtain additional information about the FEMA SID.
