SUMMARY:Medical Management for CBRNE Events (PER-211)
DESCRIPTION:What if a catastrophic event occurs? Will you be ready? Will you need a special level of protection? Is decontamination necessary? Do you have the right medications?\nPER 211\, Medical Management of Chemical\, Biological\, Radiological\, Nuclear and Explosives\, (CBRNE) Events answers these questions and more as you learn how to distinguish between different agents of concern that could be used in a major incident.\nThis course is a combination of facilitated discussions\, small-group exercises\, Human Patient Simulator hands-on scenarios\, and traditional classroom discussions. Exercises are conducted in a CBRNE scenario using both adult and pediatric Human Patient Simulators to reinforce classroom lectures and interaction.\nThis course promotes critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID-Care concept. The multi-discipline make-up of the participants helps to strengthen information sharing\, communications\, and medical surge capabilities.\nTopics Include:\n•	Environmental factors and protective issues for both first responders and the public\n•	Planning for potential consequences of a CBRNE incident\n•	Recognizing and identifying CBRNE agents and their physiological effects on the human body\n•	Appropriate self-protection measures and measures necessary to limit patient cross-contamination\n•	Assessment of adult and pediatric patients\n•	Basic decontamination considerations\n•	Appropriate triage methods during a CBRNE or terrorist incident\n•	Response to an incident involving CBRNE\n•	RAPID-Care concepts \nRecommendations: Basic EMS Concepts for CBRNE Events (AWR-111-W) & WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders (AWR-160-W)\nTo ensure adequate participation of the target audience\, all registrants will be placed on the waiting list pending approval. Justifications in the “Job Responsibilities Related to Course” section will be carefully reviewed for acceptance into the course.\nPlease contact David Bryant at david.bryant@mass.gov with any questions. \nStudents participating in FEMA provided training are required to provide their FEMA Student Identification (SID) number. Your FEMA SID uniquely identifies you throughout the FEMA organization and all of its agencies. It serves as your personal identification number and combines all of your FEMA training records under one account to simplify tracking of all your FEMA training accomplishments.\nPlease visit the FEMA SID web site to do any of the following.\n•	To register for your FEMA SID if you do not already have one\,\n•	To retrieve your FEMA SID if you have forgotten it\, and\n•	To obtain additional information about the FEMA SID.
